Ordering
Do I need an account to place an order?
No, you don’t need an account to place an order. Having an account does make it even easier to order next time.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No, there is no minimum order quantity. By placing a larger order, you can collect more tokens, which can qualify you for free delivery and a discount on your order.
Can I combine different products in one order?
Yes, absolutely – and it’s a smart thing to do. The more you order, the sooner you’ll collect enough tokens to qualify for free delivery and a discount.
Can I reserve hay?
You can’t reserve hay, but you can buy a batch and choose a delivery date, for example, a month later. We make sure there are always enough delivery slots available for this.
What are tokens?
At Hay to You, we use tokens in our webshop. These tokens are used to calculate your delivery costs and any applicable discount.
Up to 200 tokens, you pay €50 in delivery costs.
From 200 tokens, your order is delivered free of charge.
From 500 tokens, you get free delivery plus a 5% discount.
From 1,000 tokens, you get free delivery plus a 10% discount.
This way, you benefit when you order multiple products or a larger volume at once.
How do I collect tokens?
When you add products to your shopping cart, the corresponding tokens are automatically added to your total. Each product shows how many tokens you’ll receive. Ordering multiple packs of the same product? The number of tokens is multiplied by the number of packs.
You can combine different types of hay, straw and bedding to reach the number of tokens you want. In your shopping cart, you can immediately see how many tokens you’ve collected and the corresponding delivery costs or discount. This way, you know exactly where you stand before you check out.
Why does Hay to You use tokens?
Two things are important to us: a fair price for you and making our deliveries as sustainable as possible. Forage and bedding take up a lot of space during transport. The more efficiently we can fill our trucks, the more efficiently we can deliver. When you order a larger volume at once, we need to make fewer deliveries to you. This helps reduce transport costs and our impact on the environment.
The number of tokens for each product is therefore based on the volume of its packaging. A larger bale takes up more space and therefore earns more tokens.
That’s how we go for gold and green together: great quality and service for you, while taking care of the world around us.
Do more expensive products earn you more tokens?
No, tokens are based on the volume of the product. The whole idea behind tokens is to make our deliveries as efficient as possible. That’s how we go for gold and green!
Can I save my tokens for my next order?
No. Tokens only apply to the order you are placing at that moment. They are automatically used to calculate your delivery costs and any applicable discount. Each new order starts again with a token balance of zero.
Payment
What payment methods can I use?
You can pay securely in our webshop using:
iDEAL/Wero
Credit card
Apple Pay
At checkout, you’ll automatically see which payment methods are available to you.
Can I pay in cash?
No, it is not possible to pay in cash upon delivery. You pay for your order securely in advance through our webshop.
Can I pay after delivery?
When you pay by credit card, the purchase amount is initially reserved on your card. The amount is only actually charged after delivery. In this way, you effectively pay after delivery.
Payment via Klarna or Riverty, formerly AfterPay, is not available at Hay to You.
Is it safe to pay through Hay to You?
Yes. As soon as you proceed to checkout, you’ll be taken to the secure payment environment of Dutch payment service provider Mollie. Your payment and transaction details are encrypted and transmitted via a secure SSL connection. This prevents unauthorised parties from accessing or using your information.
This means you can pay for your order with peace of mind.
Delivery
Do you deliver to my home?
Absolutely. That’s exactly what makes Hay to You so convenient. We deliver your order to your home and place the hay, straw or bedding in your barn or stable for you. This means you don’t have to carry large, heavy bales yourself, and everything is put in the right place straight away.
Which regions do you deliver to?
We deliver as standard throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and selected areas of Germany. For deliveries to these regions, you can choose your preferred delivery date.
Would you like your order delivered somewhere else? Give us a call or send us an email.
Do you deliver every day?
We don’t deliver to every region every day. To make our deliveries as sustainable as possible, we group orders and deliveries by area. This allows our trucks to operate more efficiently and helps us avoid unnecessary kilometres.
When placing your order, you’ll see the available delivery dates for your area. You can then choose the date that suits you best.
What is the delivery time for my order?
When placing your order, you can choose from the available delivery dates for your region. Once your order has been processed, you’ll receive delivery information by email.
On the day of delivery, you can follow our driver using a track-and-trace code. This gives you the most accurate possible estimate of when your order will arrive.
Sometimes a delivery may take a little longer or arrive earlier than planned, for example due to traffic or because a previous delivery takes more time than expected. Our drivers will keep you informed of the situation in advance via WhatsApp. They’ll also give you a call on the day of delivery.
Can I choose my own delivery date?
Yes, when placing your order, you can choose from the available delivery dates for your region.
What are the delivery costs?
Delivery costs are calculated using our token system. The number of tokens is based on the volume of the products in your shopping cart.
Fewer than 200 tokens: you pay €50 in delivery costs.
From 200 tokens, your order is delivered free of charge.
From 500 tokens, you get free delivery and a 5% discount.
From 1,000 tokens, you get free delivery and a 10% discount.
In your shopping cart, you can immediately see how many tokens you have and which benefits apply. This means there are no surprises when you check out.
Do I need to be home for the delivery?
No, you don’t need to be home as long as the delivery instructions are clear and the location is accessible to our driver.
Where can you place my order?
Our driver will be happy to place your order wherever you prefer, as long as the location is easily accessible with our telehandler. The telehandler is 2.45 metres wide and 2.40 metres high.
If the entrance is too narrow or too low, it may still be possible to slide a bale through the opening in some cases.
Not sure whether your stable, barn or storage area is easily accessible? Please contact us in advance. We’ll be happy to help you find a practical solution.
Quality
How do I know if the quality of the hay is right for my animal?
At Hay to You, we only select high-quality hay. However, not every batch is automatically the best choice for every animal. A leisure pony, for example, may have different nutritional needs from an older horse or an animal in intensive training.
That’s why we have every batch of hay analysed. In the product information, you’ll find details such as the sugar and protein content. This allows you to compare different batches and choose the hay that suits your animal’s needs.
So you know exactly what you’re feeding your animal. For extra peace of mind.
Can Hay to You advise me on which hay is right for my animal?
Yes, we’re happy to help you choose. Based on the analyses and characteristics of our different batches, we can explain which hay may suit your animal’s needs.
We are not veterinarians or animal nutritionists, so we cannot provide medical advice or complete nutritional advice. Does your animal have health problems, an allergy or a special diet? Always consult your veterinarian or a specialist animal nutritionist.
With their advice and our clear product analyses, you can then make a well-informed choice about which batch is best suited to your animal.
Do you offer low-sugar hay?
We understand that sugar content is an important consideration for many horse owners. That’s why we do our best to offer a range of low-sugar hay batches in our webshop.
Every batch we receive is analysed separately. You can find the measured sugar content in the product information. This means you don’t have to rely on a general description, but can make your choice based on clear and transparent information.
So you know exactly what you’re feeding your animal.
Can the colour, smell or texture of the hay vary between batches?
In the product information, we describe the colour, smell and texture of the hay as clearly as possible, so you know what to expect before you order.
Can I try a smaller quantity first?
Yes, you can, with our sample box. It’s ideal if you’re not sure which batch is best suited to your animal or if you’d like to see and let your animal taste the hay first.
You’ll receive three samples from batches of your choice. The sample box also comes with a voucher for the full purchase price. Use it on your next order and you’ll get the full cost of the sample box back.
After you place your order, we’ll contact you to discuss which batches you’d like to try. We’ll then send the sample box to you as soon as possible.
This way, you can choose the hay that best suits your horse with confidence.
Why can a batch sell out?
Every batch of hay has its own specific characteristics, which you can see in the analysis we carry out for each batch. We always have a limited quantity of each batch in stock, so eventually it will sell out.
If you see a batch on our website that suits your needs, it’s best not to wait too long before ordering.
Sustainability
Why has Hay to You introduced a sustainability score?
We go for gold and green. That’s why we’ve developed our own sustainability score at Hay to You. It allows us to take a critical look at three aspects of our products: production, packaging and transport.
You’ll find the sustainability score with our products, showing you at a glance how a product performs in each of these areas. This means you can consider sustainability alongside the product’s other characteristics when making your choice. Clear, transparent and convenient.
How does the sustainability score work?
For our sustainability score, we look at three different aspects:
How the product is produced
How the product is packaged
How far the product travels
Each aspect can receive between zero and three points. The average score across these three aspects determines the product’s sustainability score. So, according to our assessment method, the higher the score, the more sustainable the choice.

How does Hay to You make its deliveries more sustainable?
In addition to our token system, we use automated route planning. The system calculates the most efficient possible delivery route for each order. We group orders by region and aim to load our trucks as efficiently and fully as possible.
This helps us avoid unnecessary kilometres and deliver your order with the smallest possible environmental footprint.

Storage
What is the best way to store hay?
Always store hay in a dry, clean and well-ventilated place. Do not place the bales directly on the floor; use pallets, for example. This allows air to circulate underneath the hay and helps prevent moisture from the floor from being absorbed by the bales. Also leave some space between the hay and the walls, especially exterior walls.
Stack the bales closely together and make sure that rain, condensation or other moisture cannot reach the hay. A good storage area should be dry and well ventilated, protected from rain and direct sunlight, free from pests, clean and free from strong odours, and spacious enough to check the bales regularly.
While the hay is in storage, check it occasionally for changes in smell, colour, temperature and moisture. This will help you spot any changes early.
How long can I store hay, straw or bedding?
How long you can store hay, straw or bedding mainly depends on its quality at the time of delivery and the conditions in your storage area. Products that are stored in a dry, clean and well-ventilated place will generally remain usable for a long time.
Check your stock regularly for moisture, mould, pests, unusual odours and changes in colour or texture. It is best to use your oldest stock first. Do not order more than you can store safely and in dry conditions. This helps prevent loss of quality and waste.
For packaged bedding, we also recommend always following the storage instructions on the packaging.
How can I prevent mould in stored hay?
Mould mainly develops when hay comes into contact with moisture and there is not enough ventilation. A dry, well-ventilated storage area is therefore essential.
Place bales on pallets rather than directly on a concrete, sand or soil floor. Leave some space between the hay and the walls so that air can circulate. Protect the hay from rain, leaks and condensation, and do not cover it completely with airtight plastic.
Check your storage area regularly. Does a bale feel warm or damp, smell unusual or show signs of discolouration? Remove it from the stack and do not feed the hay until you know what is causing the issue.
Proper storage not only helps maintain the quality of your hay, but also protects your animal’s health.
Setback
What should I do if the hay smells musty or looks unusual immediately after delivery?
Does the hay smell musty, feel damp, or do you notice mould, unusual discolouration or a lot of dust? If so, do not feed it to your animal. Set the affected bale aside so that it does not come into contact with the rest of your stock. Keep the bales closed as much as possible.
Take clear photos of the bale, the packaging and the issue, and preferably make a note of your order number as well. Then contact us. We’ll be happy to look into what’s going on with you and find a suitable solution. If in doubt, it’s always better to check first than to take a risk.
